[BECKET: At A2: “You will be leaving your partner, eventually coming back for a glorious swing”. [ allemand-L, oval-right; allemand-R, oval-left.] When you leave the oval to allemand, return to the same spot in the oval.

[Slide-left to New Nbrs to...] Circle left 3-places(8). Nbr swing(8).

[You are across from your Partner, and same-gender Nbr; they are couple #1. Oval-R to pass couple #2, #3, and as you get to couple #4... (opposite gender in  #4 is your “Shadow”) stop, get ready to...]

R-allemand with  #4 (8). Oval-left(8) [back to your original four-some, facing your Partner].
Circle left 3-places(8). Partner swing, and Slide-Left to face new Nbrs(8).

I just walk the dance thrice, so everyone knows their shadow. The mathematics, for the caller:

Counting couples, if you are out (not facing another couple) then YOUR-couple is that # couple.

E.g, you and your C#1 are at the end of the oval. When the oval rotates, you are out --so YOU are your own C#2. Rotates again; your lefthand couple is your C#3, etc.

OR: The oval 4 times, leaving your couple out; making it your own C#4. Hence your current NBR is your Shadow.

Written for my teen, Ruth, when she was 12, while driving to pick her up from Adventure Camp.
