Dear Linear-Algebra Scholars

I have already asked you to read sections 5.1 and 5.2.

Over the long weekend, please read and Think Deeply About
sections 5.3, 5.4 and 5.5.  Section 5.3 is new, but parts
of 5.4 and 5.5 have already come up in class.

In the HW problems below, the page number is the first page
in the problem set.  Problems that appear inside
parentheses are linked; you should contrast your two solutions.

Please write or type up SOLUTIONS (not just answers) to:

P.317: 14, 18,27.
P.324:  5, (31, 32).
P.333: 19. 25.

Note that, here, a "solution" is a short essay written in
complete grammatical English sentences.  Please start each
sentence with a capitalized word, rather than a math symbol.

Please write on every SECOND or every THIRD line (not every
line; I can't read it) and please write fairly large.  If
you type your HW (e.g, LaTeX; see links on my Teaching
Page) then please use a 12-point font; I have a hard time
reading most 10-point fonts.


Homework is due at the beginning of class on Monday, 05Nov2007.
